From the Battlefield to New Beginnings

Konstantin Lozhkin, a 22-year-old former soldier, exemplifies courage and resilience in the face of adversity. Before the war, Konstantin was more than just a student at a medical college in Pryluky; he was also a passionate boxer, earning medals in regional competitions. But when Russia launched its full-scale invasion, his plans changed overnight. On March 20, 2022, Konstantin made the life-altering decision to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Just a day later, he found himself on the front line near Novyi Bykiv, where he and his team were tasked with evacuating civilians and the wounded from occupied territories.

The night of May 27, 2023, became a turning point for Konstantin. During a combat mission in the village of Bilohorivka, a mortar attack erupted, and a mine fragment struck his left eye. Despite the serious injury, he remained composed and continued fighting. Summoning his strength, Konstantin reached the evacuation vehicle alone. Even after being hit again by another blast, he rose to his feet, saw the rescue vehicle, and was eventually evacuated to safety.

Following immediate medical care in Kramatorsk, Konstantin was sent to Dnipro for surgery, where doctors removed the shrapnel and cleaned his eye. From there, he was transferred to Kyiv and later to Pryluky for further evaluation. His journey then led him to Odesa, where he received treatment and rehabilitation from the renowned Dr. Vasyl Rybak.

The road to recovery was not easy. Over the past year, Konstantin faced not only physical but also psychological challenges. While he wanted to return to the front lines, he had to adapt to a new reality in civilian life. His strong sense of justice often brought moments of frustration, but he gradually learned to manage his emotions. Finding solace in sports like billiards and basketball, he discovered new ways to stay engaged and find meaning in his post-war life.

Today, thanks to the efforts of Dr. Rybak, Konstantin is looking to the future with new goals and aspirations, even with the loss of one eye. His mission is clear: to help others who have suffered from the war, both military personnel and civilians. He aims to promote rehabilitation programs, knowing firsthand the importance of finding a new purpose after enduring hardship. Konstantin is determined to be a source of inspiration and support for others, just as he was supported on his path to recovery.
